Joining a tag group is sort of like entering an AOL chat room, or discovering a new GeoCities web ring. It’s the escape they offer from the wider internet. The core appeal of tag groups, however, is not their function as a reaction meme. Some recent tag groups that have popped up in comments in my feed include: “Sounds like a weirdly specific question but ok,” “I would be shocked but depression and the internet has numbed me,” “die mad about it, sweaty,” “sounds stoned and wholesome but okay,” “what in the Florida man is going on here,” “I dream of being this petty,” “I went to hell for laughing at this,” “Wow, did you have to call me out like that?” and “Did you make this tag group just to use for this post?” As Brad Esposito reported for BuzzFeed, some people create tag groups simply in an effort to immortalize a catchphrase. Any sentence can become the title of a tag group, and often the more niche, the better. When someone utters a new phrase on Game of Thrones, for instance, people rush to their computer to create tag groups named after the particular line. The ones that take off, take off quickly. Some tag groups have upwards of 150,000 members some have just a handful. Soon, all types of people were creating tag groups and hundreds of thousands of users were joining them. U might call having a 4.0 gpa and an internship success but i have successfully joined 50+ facebook tag groups and successfully replaced all “life update!” posts on my timeline with memes and petty rage‼️□ - love child of marsha linehann and tom lynch December 21, 2017 Facebook added the ability to tag groups in comments, and fans of Weird Facebook figures such as Laird Allen, and later Jeff Conner and Gary Allen, began creating groups to react to people in the comments. Renee Cusick, who is a member of 6,000 Facebook groups, the maximum number the platform allows you to join, first noticed tag groups cropping up in 2014. “If David Lynch and Yung Lean could project their consciousnesses into social media, it’d be Weird Facebook,” Jordan Pedersen wrote in The Daily Dot in 2014. The groups are an offshoot of what is known as “ Weird Facebook”: a broad network of meme pages, groups, and cultlike characters that has injected your dad’s favorite social network with some absurdist humor over the past several years. Tag groups are not new, but they have exploded in popularity over the past couple of years. Many veer off topic and develop their own community norms. The content in most tag groups is a mix of memes and posts very generally related to the name of the group. They’re so popular that Facebook is now home to hundreds of meta-groups dedicated to surfacing tens of thousands of new tag groups. “We’re focused on building the digital equivalent of the living room, where you can interact in all the ways you’d want privately-from messaging and stories to secure payments and more,” he wrote.īut Zuckerberg’s vision for groups-a sort of digital version of the local knitting circle, kayaking club, or mom’s meet-up-is very different from the ground-up group culture that is dominated by one particular format: the tag group. More than 400 million of Facebook’s 2.37 billion monthly users are already participating in groups, according to the company, and Zuckerberg reiterated again on Instagram that Facebook believes its future is as a network of small communities. Their names read like comments themselves: “I’m disappointed, but I still love you,” “Is this a bootlickers fetish convention?” and “this post mugged and murdered my parents in an alleyway.” They’re called tag groups, and they have taken over Facebook.Įarlier this month, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg took the stage at the company’s annual developer conference to declare that the company would completely overhaul its platform to focus on one product: groups. You’ll find these groups tagged in the comments section on articles, photos, and videos, and in other groups. Over the past few years, thousands of groups with nonsensical names have cropped up all over Facebook.

You can download the pkg installer from Mr Macintosh blog. macOS Sonoma should be used, currently it is in beta. The automated installer also doubles up as a GUI to launch existing installed apps, all visually without ever having to drop down to the command line.Of course, in this scenario, you would still need macOS Sonoma and an Apple Silicon device to enjoy 3D acceleration benefits. You also won't need to download the Game Porting Toolkit DMG from Apple, although if available, it will be utilized (you just point the installer to the DMG download, and it takes care of the rest).Neither macOS Sonoma nor an Apple Silicon device are required by the automated installer. The automated installer is notarized by Apple, so has no known malware and runs as soon as you've double-clicked it without any Gatekeeper concerns.Scroll down where they have a screenshot of their graphical user interface, and download the DMG from the link right above that. This can be problamatic, especially for users who are moving the Launcher and game (or application) installs to machines that do not have the same drive letter or directory structure as the original install machine. At this time, if you move an installed game or application to a new location, the Launcher can't discover the moved installs. The Launcher stores game and application install location information in manifest files living in the system's ProgramData folder. We encourage you to move the Epic folder rather than deleting it, because if you delete the folder from the Launcher install directory, you will probably lose manifest files (binary files that cannot be modified), which tell the Launcher where your game or application is installed. With all of the program data files in the install folder, no additional work is necessary. Internet cafe owners, for example, will be able to set up the Launcher once on the server machine, such that the server's install folder will be cloned to its clients. After enabling PCB Mode, the Launcher stores the program data folder inside of its install folder. To simplify their workflow, the Launcher now supports PCB Mode. Sometimes, system administrators need to run a series of complicated steps to mirror the program data folder onto client machines. Often, if an office, academic, or Internet cafe administrator installs the Launcher and Unreal Engine on a server without mirroring the program data to client machines, they will encounter installation issues, including a client's inability to find game installs and re-installs of applications. On Windows, the Launcher typically stores manifest, dynamic, and temporary files in the system's ProgramData folder (for example, %programdata%\Epic or C:\ProgramData\Epic). At this time, these features are only supported on the Windows operating system. The biggest new thing in RTS battles is a tactical pause. DAK also fields elite Italian infantry units such as Bersaglieri and Guastatori, but (for now) lacks their famous anti-tank units Rommel favored above all else. This mechanized force is all about speed and aggression, with a strong emphasis on recovering damaged vehicles in the field. Deutsches Afrikakorps is, of course, the most exciting of them all. There are four factions this time – Wehrmacht, DAK, US forces, and British forces. The best thing about Company of Heroes is the superb tactical battle module. The higher relations tier unlocks different bonuses, nice to have but never crucial. For example, bombarding cities for faster conquest has a detrimental effect on relations with partisans. By selecting the dialogue choices they favor, which leads to different optional objectives, you will raise your standing with them. Chief among them is the reputation system with American and British generals, as well as with the leader of Italian partisans. Succeeding in this game requires only patience to slog through Italian boot, heading north and conquering one city after another.Īpart from the freedom to acquire the divisions you desire, the campaign is flavored with some non-consequential RPG elements. Compare that with the brutal dynamism of any Total War game and you’ll realize how utterly devoid of challenge CoH3 really is. Germans will mostly just sit there, manning the lines and waiting for sweet obliteration. Save for limited local counter-attacks, Wehrmacht will never attempt to retake the liberated cities in a non-scripted fashion. Unfortunately, the opponent is completely passive. The road to Rome leads through Naples and Anzio. Simply put, campaigns present you with a non-linear trek to fixed objectives (missions) you must complete. The conquest of the territory, coastal and inland cities seems non-linear at first, but the campaign has several key junctions that must be completed to advance. Instead of a scripted, linear campaign, you have the freedom to maneuver and pick the targets. Non-Linear Campaign Is A DudĪllied invasion of the Italian mainland is the meat and bones of Company of Heroes 3. It was, as Churchill would say, “The end of the beginning” of WWII. Through the campaign, you will be repeating that conquest up to the battle of El Alamein, which signified the beginning of the end for Rommel and DAK. It took the combined might of US invasion forces and Brits to finally defeat it. Not only did DAK stabilize the front, but it also succeeded in driving the British forces all the way to Egypt, seizing Tobruk as well as the rest of the coast. Led by Erwin Rommel, it proved very successful, managing to massively surpass its initial operational goals. The game also offers robust multiplayer, AI skirmish, and modding support out of the box (do people still buy boxed PC games?).ĭeutsches Afrikakorps, or DAK, was the Wehrmacht expeditionary force, sent by Hitler to north Africa to rescue Mussolini’s battered army. The second one is the prequel campaign in which you’ll be controlling Romel’s Africa Corps in a classic, linear fashion, though eight fixed missions. Main event is the allied invasion of Italy, presented in a turn-based mode similar (at first sight) to Total War games. I didn't play the Champaign but it just feels odd having those 2 in.Company of Heroes 3 has two single-player campaigns. I do find the American and Wermacht faction out of place in this game though compared to the African and British faction. In the end both sides have their strengths and weaknesses and alot of it comes down to different playstyles. The Axis on the other hand has the strength of VERY high quality armored options along with the best emplaced gun in the game (88mm Flak 36) that can shoot down planes, rotate 360 and destroy tanks from range and at a decent and affordable price. In my opinion the Allies strength is access to a range of Anti-Vehicle options especially a good amount of Anti-Vehicle infantry that is not really afforded to the Axis side early or later on and has to rely on vehicle or emplaced AT guns to get the job done. How is that even possible? I think after playing quite a few games with all factions I have come to the conclusion that the advantages and disadvantages of both sides feel very glaring due to none of it being properly balanced yet. Originally posted by Many-Named:Hey guys did you notice how there are constant threads about either axis or allies being OP? John Root would pass away in 1891 of pneumonia, and the “new” firm of D.H. It is also among the most environmentally friendly buildings in the world, being certified LEED platinum, an incredibly feat for a nearly 50 year old building, let alone one of this size. The Willis Tower is big enough to have its own zip code, more than 100 elevators, and forces offices to open in shifts so as not to overwhelm the lobby and street. (Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s current tallest building, is also done with multiple towers of different heights for stability.) The Willis (Sears) Tower This methodology was both revolutionary, and also an extension of a Chicago style, where a taller central tower would rise out of shorter and squatter wings to skirt height restrictions for construction. Completed in 1974, the Willis Tower is actually nine towers in one, each rising to a different height for stability purposes. At 110 floors tall, the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) is the tallest building in the city, and in the top 25 in the world. Only a short walk from The Rookery is the logical extension of Daniel Burnham’s vision for a Chicago reaching upward rather than outward. While the outside facade of the building is unremarkable, it is the interior lobby, designed in 1905 by Frank Lloyd Wright, that makes The Rookery a must-visit for an architecture fan. The load-bearing walls are the exterior ones of the square building, and the interior steel frame allows for a more airy feel. At twelve stories, it was again a marvel of design, and the two even moved their offices to the top floor. While the Montauk was demolished in 1902, Burnham and Rook’s 1885 Rookery Building stands to this day, the oldest skyscraper in the city. The building was made of concrete and steel, both for stability and for fire-resistance, and was so tall – for the time – that some potential tenants refused to occupy the higher floors. Burnham and Root designed it to withstand the city’s wet soil by digging down and creating an artificial bedrock of cement upon a hard clay layer, again a new method that would become used regularly in building design moving forward. Burnham declared that its height allowed it to scrape the sky, and so the skyscraper was born. The Montauk Building, at ten stories tall, was the tallest building in the city at the time. In 1881, the firm of Burnham and Root was hired to build a brand new type of building. Here he met John Root, a 21 year old, and the two, guided by Burnham’s vision for what a majestic Chicago could be, would shape the city and its appearance to this day. The year was 1872, and the city had been devastated by a terrible fire the prior year, one that destroyed the overwhelming majority of downtown. Perhaps it implies continuity? Perhaps it means the transformation won't enter the domain of complex numbers?Īlso, can you name a condition or two where 'linearity', that is, the criterion will consistently broken?
